Sam The Lion were saved into my draft folder towards the end of Summer but I never quite got around to posting about the American quartet. A chilly day like today somehow seems a better time to introduce them here, their latest track of five (all streaming via their Soundcloud) "Birds Awake At Dawn" introducing misty, wintry atmosphere made for the cold days.
Dreamy and intimate, "Birds Awake At Dawn" is the perfect title for the introverted atmosphere created, you can almost feel the morning dew and touch the crisp berries as sparse, sleepy instrumentation and hushed tones gently seep underneath the skin.
"Ichiban" is similarly slow to lift, sweetly mournful pacing and tender, vulnerable vocals that tingle at the soul, creating images that remain long after the track ends. The only comparison worth mentioning for me is Birds of Passage, fragile, intoxicating and overwhelmingly beautiful.
Take a moment out of your day and get familiar with Sam The Lion tomorrow, a treat is there to be found.
